The Seduction Of Psychology

Psychological counseling is attempting to supplant the true counsel of the Lord Jesus Christ that people so desperately need. This psychological counseling clothes itself with Christian terms to disguise its true identity. It's practitioners believe that the word of God by itself is inadequate. So they presume to integrate God's Word with humanistic, atheistic psychology. What results is supposedly Christianized therapies. But these therapies diminish the Lord Jesus Christ while exalting man. Many Christians are being led astray by these seductive therapies--which amount to a new gospel that heals their brokenness superficially (Jeremiah 8:11).

Scripture exhorts us to hold to the purity of the Word of God and to discern what is true. We are warned to be on the alert for false teachers and doctrines. And we are admonished not to be carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, and by craftiness in deceitful scheming.

Pastors and church leaders must learn to recognize the intrusion of psychological theories and practices into the affairs of the church. And they must alert and protect their congregations.

"Blessed in the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper" (Psalm 1:1-3 KJV).
